Science in Action

It isn’t just scientists who use scientific information – the government is one of the biggest users of science. In this exhibition we explore how and why. Science in Action takes visitors back in time to February 2013: severe flooding has occurred in the Somerset Levels, 5000 homes in the Thames Valley are without power, and the Thames Flood Barrier is threatened. The British Prime Minister will shortly be chairing a Cabinet Office Briefing Room (COBR) session to discuss the situation. COBR will call on the UK’s The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) for the information needed to manage the developing crisis. Working through a series of interactive displays visitors must work out: what COBR want to know; to whom they want to talk and what kinds of scientific information they need.
