SPOTLIGHT EXHIBIT

Demystifying AI Title_transparent.png

We’re excited to announce that Oriel Science is one of 15 partners running the

Association for Science and Discovery Centre’s science engagement programme Demystifying AI. Over the next three months, we’ll be hosting a series of hands-on exhibitions at our venue, exploring artificial intelligence in engaging and accessible ways.

More exhibitions will be announced soon, so keep an eye on this page and our socials for updates.

The impact
of Deepfakes

Can you always trust what you see online?
The Impact of Deepfakes explores how artificial images and videos are created and how they can affect legal cases. Discover how Swansea University researchers from the TRUE project work to assess user-generated evidence and help safeguard justice in a digital world.

Barti
Ddu

What would you ask one of Wales’ most successful pirates? The Barti Ddu exhibit brings the Welsh pirate Bartholomew Roberts to life through an AI chatbot trained only on information from his time. Ask questions in Welsh or English to discover how AI systems depend on the data they are given and why they do not know everything.

Street Scenes (2).png

Street
SCENES

How does AI turn pictures into moving stories? Street Scenes is a portable video generator that transforms still images into short videos. Sometimes the result closely follows the original image, but sometimes the AI re-imagines it entirely. Created to give more people the chance to try out AI for themselves, the exhibit invites you to explore this technology either by creating a video or by simply exploring videos made by other visitors.

SKETCH TO
IMAGE

How does AI turn simple sketches into detailed images?

Sketch to Image transforms your drawings into colourful, painting-style artworks. Sometimes the result closely follows your original sketch, but sometimes the AI adds new details or reimagines it entirely. Created to give more people the chance to try out AI for themselves, the exhibit invites you to experiment with your own sketches and explore how different styles and prompts can shape the final image.

IMAGING EXHIBITION

IMAGING is our current family-friendly exhibition where you can explore more than 40 fascinating exhibits celebrating how Swansea University researchers visualise, capture and interpret the world within and around us. From imaging the size of a Megalodon shark, and making a model heart pump, to interacting with an artefact from the Mary Rose, and seeing distant stars and galaxies, this exhibition has something for everyone!

Demystifying AI is supported by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), with projectdevelopment from Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC, part of UKRI).
